The accountable AI learning checklist
Eight questions to ask before relying on an AI answer for learning. An original SASHA printable resource.
1. Name the learning goal
Write the skill you want to practise, not just the answer you want to obtain. Decide what you should still be able to do without the tool.
2. Set the permitted use
Check the assignment, institution, or workplace rules. Agree what kind of help is allowed: explanation, hints, feedback, or another defined use.
3. Minimize the information you share
Use an invented example where possible. Keep names, account details, school records, health information, and confidential documents out of a public prompt.
4. Check the actual source
Open the source, confirm it says what the answer claims, and check its date and context. A convincing citation can still be wrong or irrelevant.
5. Find an uncertainty or counterexample
Ask what assumptions the answer makes. Try one example where the explanation could fail. Mark anything you cannot verify.
6. Practise without the answer
Close the generated solution and attempt a related task. Explain the steps in your own words. Treat the result as feedback about the next thing to practise, not a diagnosis.
7. Keep the human decision visible
Identify who reviews the result and what they need to know. A tool's suggestion should not silently become a grade, support decision, or conclusion about a learner.
8. Record the next action
Write one action, one responsible person, and a review time. Keep the note brief and share it only with people who are authorized to receive it.
